This is an interdisciplinary center that includes bioengineering, biology, biochemistry, as well as medical science and engineering. Our research areas include the followings.
1. Early diagnosis of cancer focuses on detecting symptomatic patients as early as possible so they have the best chance for successful treatment. We employ nanotechnology to generate rapid and sensitive detection of gastric and colorectal cancer-related molecules that changes even when they occur only in a small percentage of cells. We also use nanotechnology to generate novel and highly effective therapeutic agents.
2. We combine nanotechnologies with cardiac immunoassays for the development of early-stage diagnosis of myocardial infarction. To reduce non-specific binding sites, we employ nanotechnologies to provide high binding efficiency of cardiac targets, offer excellent signal amplification, and possess multiple functions.
3. Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease remain the leading cause of mortality and morbidity globally. These diseases have resulted in an ever-persistent demand for vascular conduits to reconstruct or bypass vascular occlusions and aneurysms. Our aim is to employ the biomedical engineering methods to promote vascular regeneration and inhibit hyperplasia. Our vascular tissue engineering employs adult and induced stem cells as seed cells to possess an ability to proliferate, avoid an immunologic reaction, and be harvestable.
